NOTICE FROM OUR WEB HOST - PART 2

Post by Admin »

Dear Mr. Admin,

At 1&1, we're constantly updating to new technical and security-related requirements.
With that in mind, we'd like to inform you about the migration to a new MySQL version.
From May 1, 2013, we will no longer support the version MySQL 4.
Instead, you can now use the version MySQL 5.1.

To benefit from the new MySQL version as quickly as possible, you should already
migrate your databases to the new version now.
For additional information and instructions on how to migrate your databases,
please refer to the following link:
http://faq.1and1.com/search/go.php?t=e792311

Important: MySQL 4 will be deactivated starting on May 1, 2013.
To ensure that your contract is fully functional, migrate your databases to
MySQL 5.1 as soon as possible.

Here we go again.

We'll be transitioning the databases within the next 48 hours. I feel it's
better doing it sooner than later in case there is a snafu.

If anything happens I've considered the idea of a dedicated server that we
can fully control.

In the words of Samuel L. Jackson in Jurassic Park when he rebooted the system;

I changed my mind.

I've researched a little found that our older board software may have
issues with the new sql.

I'm going to do some experimenting during the next two weeks with some
newer board software along with the new sql. Maybe I can transfer the raw
data from the current database into the new.

It would be a long tedious job but maybe we can keep the forums intact as
we know them.

Wish us luck.
