Cogeco heads for 5-10Mbps

Not to be outdone by fellow Canadian cable provider Rogers and their recently added 5mbps tier, Cogeco today officially announced they'd be making 5mbps their standard downstream speed. The company's standard service moves from 3 to 5 Mbps, and their "High Speed Pro" tier will shift from 5-10 Mbps downstream. Upstream bandwidth has been increased as well - standard upstream to 640 Kbps, with the "High Speed Pro" tier seeing upstream increase to 1 Mbps.

And on a side note........................ New SBC prices & tiers on deck
unsubstantiated rumors indicate SBC should unveil a number of new promotions in February in the hopes of worrying cable executives. Among the changes, sources indicate, is a 1.5-6mbps package teetering close to cable's $45 price point.
