Rock, we did have good info on the old site, but most of it is obsolete now, and this year will rapidly continue the process. These are a few of the changes that may take place this year:
PCS - PCS Express
32bit -64 bit
AGP- will be eliminated or revamped
FSB- Will be revamped
DDR- will change to DDR2
Vcards-will move to 64bit OS
32bit OS - will move at first to dual 32/64 OS
So if you need a new sys buy a 64 bit chip that now will run faster than a top end P4, and get a N3 Mobo with the ob snd, video, paired memory - this is a cheap way to upgrade in view of the tech changes tha are getting ready to take place.

PS: the FX 53 will be out in March 04

Rock, its not bad, but I like to build my own stuff. You can tweak performance and upgrade path by selecting good components rather than take a package someone else has configured for profit motive. The 64 bit chip will drop in price at month end.
I'm looking at :
Biostar N3 board with ob snd, 64 video8x, A97 ,10/100/1000 lan - bundled with Norton 2004 virus and IS software. sata/150
Asus N3 - has a bug in it don't buy it
3200 oem
Zalman 64 fan and heat sink
case with front usb & snd
Suse Linux for the AMD 64 and the wine converter (upgrade)
twin corsair xmx mem 1 gig
If you need a card reader there are multi mem fdrives which will read
any mem stick format on the planet. (has multiple slots ) $ 20
sys cost $490-$597 depending on memory
Rock, check out this review of new 8th gen boards:

Don't get me wrong- I love the case, but the only thing available for it is a shuttle size mobo as no one makes a undersize mobo to fit the case.
Moreover, you can't buy just the case yet , and the max PS is 225-250wtt. --- but it is a great looking case I think. So you have limited hardware upgrades unless you want all shuttle equipment.

I agree with your assement Kosh, and I've previously tried to steer clear of Shuttle style systems for that reason. It's not like I shuttle off to LAN parties left right and centre.
Problem seems to be that TigerDirect keeps dropping the barebones systems that I'm interested in, so when I get the wife convinced, I have money, and I have a few minutes of time, the damm systems aren't there anymore.
IMHO TigerDirect is perfect for a guy like me that needs high end stuff AND doesn't have the time to trundle off to places to look for it. Mail Order systems are still relatively new up here, with DELL and TigerDirect being the ONLY serious players in this area. Most the US sites don't ship to Canada and I'm a little leery of shipping damages and Canada Customs and the assoicated costs for both.
I appreciate the insites Kosh

Does he go with 2 Terabyte (7200rpm) w/ 8MB RAM Buffer [add $2457] , Raptor 296GB (10000rpm) w/ 8MB RAM Buffer , or the Ultra-SCSI 320 w/ 4 73.4GB
Seagate Cheetah 15K.3 Drives [add $3020] for storage ?
And since Rock has nothing but money to spend , go for the 16GB [4GB + 12GB Extended RAM]
The system i configured was only $16,000.00
